What If Your Buyer Is Jewish? Or Muslim? Or Athiest?

One of the most difficult conversations to have with home sellers is telling them that their choice of decor isn’t appropriate.  Deer heads, stuffed ducks, naked paintings or sculpture may be art to you but it isn’t to everyone.

One seller wanted to argue with me; but there’s nothing to argue about.  This isn’t my opinion.  It’s marketing.  When you’re selling a house, the idea is to market it to the broadest number of people, regardless of their background, ethnicity or religion.

Do you want to sell your house or do you want to have a debate about whether that pencil drawing of a naked lady is art or could be considered offensive?

I always tell my home buyer clients to look past the decoration; it’s not staying.  Sometimes that isn’t possible.

My client was so shocked, she actually took pictures.  These photos are all from one house – and there are more.

It’s been on the market 95 days.  Do you think this could have anything to do with it?

By special request I’m amending this post to include all the pics.
