Book Discussion Series for Spring 2008

 
 
 
San Mateo City of Readers announces its Book Discussion Series for Spring 2008:    

Tales of South Asia: Novels and Memoirs of the Indian Subcontinent

This time they are mixing fiction and non-fiction that focuses on diverse experiences in India, Pakistan, Nepal and neighboring areas.

They will be meeting on the second Tuesday for four months at 7:00 p.m. in the Laurel Room on the first floor of the San Mateo Main Library.  The dates and titles are:

Tuesday, February, 12       Three Cups of Tea                Greg Mortenson

Tuesday, March 11              The God of Small Things     Arundhati Roy

Tuesday, April 8                   Untouchables                       Narendra Jadhav

Tuesday, May 13                 The Inheritance of Loss      Kiran Desai      

This is a drop-in book group.  Come to as many session as you like.  No need to pre-register, just read the book and show up.

    Are you going to this? I’m from Nepal so I was pretty excited that Nepal was included on this list. When people talk about South Asia they just forget about us – so it was cool to be mentioned.

    I’ve read “God of Small Things” – its a masterpiece. Absolutely brilliant. I remember reading it and I was just transfixed. I’ll have to check out the others on the list.
